Mobile applications and websites of social networks that excel photography as the main language have won overwhelming spaces on the web, enabling the success of social networks directed only to the photographic practice. This article aims to discuss how these digital environments treat the relationship between photography and the production of memory, and this discussion will approach Snapchat, a mobile application aimed to picture instant moments by photosharing and to delete subsequently the photos produced. The question that emerges before this new phenomenon of technological devices is to understand the new role of memory in this appropriation of digital photography aimed to “forget.” Favored as essayistic study, this article seeks traces left by the materiality of interpersonal relationships in digital platforms – mediated by images. It was noticed an overlap of the communicative role of the photograph on the memory storage, among other findings.
