This study brings a discourse analysis of Foucault’s inspiration about women and emotions in stories on career in magazines Veja, Época and Você S/A Edição para Mulheres. In the new configurations of work, “feminine sensibility” is exalted as a competitive advantage, as long as it is properly used. However, emotions also make women unstable and dangerous. There is a control rhetoric directed at female gender: their emotions must be managed in order to be transformed in productive capital, avoiding causing risks to social order. The stories, imbued with the aura of journalistic objectivity, discursively act as instruments of neoliberal rationality, helping to enroll in the individual the imperative of self-government and conforming subjects oriented to have the best performance without changing the traditional hierarchy of gender.
