Abstract

This essay describes and examines some influences, exercised in the phases of production, circulation and reception of the audiovisual industry, by technologies and work practices considered as amateurs. This set of procedures has challenged the way in which individuals, technologies and non-professional interfaces are defying a paradigm shift of clarity and readability that has constituted the clean, hegemonic aesthetics adopted by the audiovisual industry for many decades. The essay tries to demonstrate some stylistic aspects of what I am calling an “aesthetics of imperfection”, which seems to be a strong trend on contemporary audiovisual culture.
