Abstract

Among the principles that guide the public journalism, there are the defense of public interests, the plurality, the search for solutions to problems and the encouragement of citizenship. In 2007, during the political crisis caused by denouncements against the president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros, the Jornal do Senado, a publication sponsored by contributors, was contrary to these principles. The analysis of the covers of August 2007 editions, just before the voting for the petition of repeal of Calheiros, shows that the titles and texts were used to defend the then president of the institution and to disqualify the denouncements against the senator.
