Abstract

This research has the aim of analyzing the personage Carlitos (The Tramp) of the directed and produced by its main character, Charles Spencer Chaplin. The contribution of this work to the field of contemporary audiovisual communication is to analyze the specific features which made this personage through exploratory immersion on Chaplin’s personality as well as of the character, Carlitos, confronting dictatorship oppression and ideologies. The direct observation of forms of presence in the chosen film production, and the focus on narrative transformation of the character, will become the necessary filters for the productive selection of the indivisible elements that lead to the distinctions between silent and sounded cinema, and its possible interferences of Carlitos, the character.
