Abstract

The present article focuses on the presence of the musical genre in Brazilian contemporary audiovisual production. It approaches what such genre entails, what are its fixations and shifts throughout the times, as we point out that there is a current visual reinforcement of the broadcasted visual performances. Our main hypothesis for this work is the possibility of defining such genre trough a process of double referencing the presence of the musical element. As ways to exemplify this we take on the film Os Desafinados (2008). On the border between film and television production we analyze High School Musical – o desafio (2010) and finally we get to the music talent show Ídolos (Brazilian version for the Idol brand).
