Abstract

This article proposes a reflection on the problem of adapting literary texts to audiovisual media through the example of the book Goodfellas, written by journalist Nicholas Pileggi, as it would be brought to the screen by filmmaker Martin Scorsese. We aim to understand what the main resources, technical and strategical ones that enable the “literary–audiovisual” version. We are also interested in understanding what the limitations of this process are and its consequences in the final film product.
