Abstract

One of the most popular monsters of the international horror films since the 1930s, the zombie took more than four decades to appear in Brazilian cinema, and since then has remained a marginal figure on films produced in the country. Bolstered by the concept of paracinema, proposed by Jeffrey Sconce, this essay attempts to give an overview of the zombie presence in Brazilian feature films, and propose a political reading that enables an explanation to this marginality.
