Abstract

The proposal is to analyze the meanings produced by journalistic discourse observing a corpus of texts published in the newspapers Folha de S. Paulo, O Estado de S. Paulo and O Globo regarding the establishment of the National Truth Commission. Considering discourse analysis (DA) notions and based on the concept of silencing (ORLANDI, 2007), we observe that the newspapers headlines reinforce the difficulty still present in the Brazilian press in general facing the theme of dictatorship, not being able to inform the reader about the importance of the historical recovery of such period for the consolidation of Brazilian democracy. The ceremony for the establishment of the Commission is understood as a historical and current journalistic event that is at one time caught up in the past but also carries an expectation for the future.
