Abstract

This article analyzes the various ways of portraying Brazilian indigenous peoples in the national cinematography, with special attention to Hans Staden, a film by Luis Alberto Pereira (1999), and Caramuru, The Invention of Brazil(Caramuru, A Invenção do Brasil) by Guel Arraes and Jorge Furtado (2001). Using these productions, the author considers the forms of cultural domination over the Brazilian native peoples.
