Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the ethical, political, theorethical and practical implications of teaching Ancient History in contemporary Brazilian universities. The discussion is divided according to five sets of variables that affest the making of the discipline: its place in undergraduate course structures, its aims, its objetcs, its methods and the teachers and students’ repertoires. It is argued that Ancient History is a strategical place to reflect on the cientific fundaments of History as well to criticise old and promote new historical narratives.
